Solutions for common questions and issues you may encounter while using Answered List.
I lost my data or reinstalled the app
All prayer data is stored locally on your device. Answered List does not sync to the cloud, so your device backup is your safety net.
iOS
If you have a recent iCloud backup, restore your device from that backup to recover your data. To prevent future data loss, make sure iCloud Backup is enabled (see “How do I back up my prayers?” below).
Android
If you have a recent Google backup, restore your device from that backup. To prevent future data loss, make sure Auto Backup is enabled in your device Settings > Google > Backup.
Reminders aren’t working
Try these steps to resolve notification issues:
iOS
- Make sure notifications are enabled for Answered List in your device Settings > Notifications > Answered List.
- Check that Do Not Disturb or a Focus mode is not blocking notifications.
- Try toggling the reminder off and back on in the app’s Settings screen.
Android
- Make sure notifications are enabled for Answered List in Settings > Apps > Answered List > Notifications.
- Check that Do Not Disturb is not blocking notifications.
- Some Android devices aggressively kill background apps. Check your device manufacturer’s battery optimization settings and make sure Answered List is excluded from battery optimization.
- Try toggling the reminder off and back on in the app’s Settings screen.
Face ID or biometrics aren’t working for private prayers
iOS
Ensure that biometrics are set up on your device by going to Settings > Face ID & Passcode (or Touch ID & Passcode on older devices). If your device does not support biometrics, the private prayers feature will fall back to your device passcode instead.
Android
Ensure that a screen lock is set up on your device (fingerprint, PIN, or pattern) by going to Settings > Security > Screen lock. Answered List uses your device’s built-in authentication, so any configured lock method will work. If authentication is not responding, try closing and reopening the app.
Voice input isn’t working
Check that Answered List has microphone permission:
- iOS: Go to Settings > Answered List > Microphone and make sure it is enabled.
- Android: Go to Settings > Apps > Answered List > Permissions > Microphone and make sure it is allowed.
If you are in a noisy environment, try moving somewhere quieter. Speech recognition is handled by your device’s operating system and may require an internet connection depending on your device settings.
How do I back up my prayers?
iOS
Your prayers are included in your standard iCloud backup. To verify that iCloud Backup is enabled:
- Open Settings on your device.
- Tap your name at the top, then go to iCloud > iCloud Backup.
- Make sure iCloud Backup is turned on.
Android
Your prayers are included in your device’s Google backup. To verify that backup is enabled:
- Open Settings on your device.
- Go to Google > Backup (or System > Backup on some devices).
- Make sure backup is turned on.
Back up regularly to ensure your prayer data is always protected. You can also use the Export feature to create a .answeredlist file as an additional backup.
The app is running slowly
Try closing and reopening the app. If you have a very large number of prayers, consider archiving prayers you no longer need in your active list. Archiving moves them out of your day-to-day view while preserving them for future reference.
How do I restore Premium on a new device?
iOS
Go to Settings > Restore Purchases. This will check with the App Store and restore your Premium subscription. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID that you originally used to purchase Premium.
Android
Go to Settings > Restore Purchases. This will check with Google Play and restore your Premium subscription. Make sure you are signed in with the same Google account that you originally used to purchase Premium.
I can’t find a specific prayer
Try these steps to locate your prayer:
- Search — Tap the search icon on the Prayers tab and search by title or description.
- Check category filters — If you have a category filter active, it may be hiding the prayer. Tap All to clear all filters and show every prayer.
- Check for private prayers — Private prayers are hidden by default. Tap the lock icon and authenticate with Face ID, fingerprint, or your device passcode to reveal them.
- Check Archived — Open Smart Lists and check the Archived list in case the prayer was archived.
