Pure Hunger Labs, LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) built AnsweredList as a freemium mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use the AnsweredList application (the “App”). By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

This policy is designed to comply with applicable data protection laws worldwide, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) in the United States, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) in Canada, the Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD) in Brazil, the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) in South Africa, the Australian Privacy Principles (APP), the UK Data Protection Act 2018, and other applicable privacy regulations.

1. Our Privacy Commitment

AnsweredList is designed as a privacy-first, offline-first application. Your prayer data, journal entries, and personal content are stored locally on your device only. We do not operate servers that collect, store, or process your personal data. There is no user account, no cloud sync, and no telemetry.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information Stored Locally on Your Device

The following data is created and stored exclusively on your device in a local database. We never have access to this data:

  • Prayer entries (titles, notes, status, dates, categories, tags)
  • Prayer journal entries (text reflections linked to prayers)
  • Favorite Bible verses (book, chapter, verse, translation)
  • App settings and preferences (theme, notification times, selected translation)
  • Cached Bible verses (downloaded translation text for offline reading)

2.2 Information We Do Not Collect

We do not collect, transmit, or have access to:

  • Your name, email address, or any account credentials (no account is required)
  • Your prayer content or journal entries
  • Your location or GPS data
  • Analytics, usage metrics, or behavioral data
  • Advertising identifiers or tracking data
  • Device identifiers for profiling purposes
  • Health, financial, or biometric data (biometric authentication is processed entirely on-device by your operating system)

3. Device Permissions

The App may request the following device permissions. All permissions are optional and requested only at the point of use, never on first launch. You may deny or revoke any permission at any time through your device settings.

3.1 Contacts

  • Purpose: To link prayer requests to people in your address book.
  • Data accessed: Contact names and thumbnails from your device’s address book.
  • Storage: Only the selected contact’s name and identifier are stored locally in the App’s database. Your full contact list is never copied or stored.
  • Sharing: Contact data is never transmitted off your device.

3.2 Microphone and Speech Recognition

  • Purpose: To enable voice-to-text dictation for entering prayers.
  • Data accessed: Audio input from your device’s microphone, processed through your device’s speech recognition service.
  • Storage: Only the resulting transcribed text is stored locally as part of your prayer. Audio recordings are not stored.
  • Sharing: Audio data is processed by your device’s operating system speech recognition service (Apple Speech or Google Speech Services). We do not receive or store audio data. Please refer to Apple’s or Google’s privacy policies for information on how they process speech data.

3.3 Biometric Authentication (Face ID / Touch ID / Fingerprint)

  • Purpose: To protect prayers you have marked as private.
  • Data accessed: None. Biometric authentication is handled entirely by your device’s operating system. The App never receives, processes, or stores biometric data (fingerprints, facial geometry, etc.).
  • Storage: No biometric data is stored by the App.
  • Sharing: No biometric data is shared.

3.4 Notifications

  • Purpose: To send local prayer reminders, prayer date reminders, and answered prayer anniversary notifications.
  • Data accessed: None beyond your notification preference settings.
  • Storage: Notification schedules are stored locally on your device.
  • Sharing: Notifications are local to your device and are not sent through any external server.

3.5 Photo Library

  • Purpose: To allow you to select a custom background image for the App (premium feature).
  • Data accessed: Only the single image file you select.
  • Storage: A copy of the selected image is stored locally in the App’s documents directory.
  • Sharing: The image is never transmitted off your device.

4. Network Requests

The App is primarily offline. The following limited network requests may occur:

4.1 Bible Translation Data

When you select a Bible translation other than the bundled World English Bible (WEB), the App retrieves Scripture text from a publicly hosted content delivery network (CDN). These requests:

  • Contain only the requested book, chapter, and verse identifiers
  • Do not include any personal data, device identifiers, or authentication tokens
  • Are standard HTTPS GET requests to a public CDN (jsDelivr)

Retrieved Scripture text is cached locally on your device for offline use.

4.2 In-App Purchases

When you choose to purchase a premium subscription, the transaction is processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We do not receive, process, or store your payment information (credit card numbers, billing addresses, etc.). Purchase validation is handled by the respective platform. Please refer to Apple’s or Google’s privacy policies for details on how they process payment data.

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

5.1 Prayer Sharing (User-Initiated)

The App includes optional features that allow you to share your own prayer data:

  • Share as text via your device’s share sheet (e.g., messaging, email)
  • Export as PDF document
  • Export as .answeredlist file (JSON backup format) for transfer to another device

These sharing actions are initiated entirely by you. The App does not automatically share any data.

5.2 Third-Party Services

We do not share, sell, rent, or trade your personal information with any third parties for marketing, advertising, or any other purpose.

The only third-party services involved are:

5.3 Legal Requirements

We may be required to disclose information if compelled by law, regulation, or legal process. However, since we do not collect or possess your personal data, we have nothing to disclose.

6. Data Retention and Deletion

All App data is stored locally on your device. You have full control over your data at all times:

  • Delete individual items: You can delete individual prayers, journal entries, categories, and favorite verses within the App.
  • Export your data: You can export all prayer data as a .answeredlist backup file at any time.
  • Delete all data: Uninstalling the App permanently removes all locally stored data from your device.

We do not retain any copy of your data because we never receive it.

7. Data Security

We implement the following measures to protect your data:

  • Local-only storage: All personal data remains on your device and is never transmitted to our servers (we do not operate data servers).
  • Biometric protection: Private prayers can be protected with Face ID, Touch ID, or fingerprint authentication.
  • Operating system encryption: Your data benefits from your device’s built-in file-system encryption (iOS Data Protection / Android file-based encryption).
  • No remote access: Since your data exists only on your device, there is no remote attack surface for your personal data.

8. Children’s Privacy

The App does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). Since the App does not collect personal data from any user, no special provisions for children’s data are necessary. The App contains no advertising, no social features, and no user-generated content visible to others.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

9.1 All Users

Since all data is stored locally on your device and we do not collect or process your personal data on our servers, you inherently have full control over your data, including the ability to access, modify, export, and delete it at any time directly within the App.

9.2 European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland (GDPR/UK GDPR)

Under the GDPR, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, data portability, and object to processing of your personal data. As we do not collect or process your personal data, these rights are satisfied by the App’s local-only architecture. Our lawful basis for any data processing that does occur on your device is your explicit consent (e.g., granting device permissions).

9.3 California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

Under the CCPA, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to delete your personal information, to opt out of the sale of personal information, and to non-discrimination. We do not sell personal information. We do not collect personal information as defined by the CCPA.

9.4 Brazil (LGPD)

Under the LGPD, you have the right to confirmation of processing, access, correction, anonymization, portability, deletion, and information about sharing. As we do not process your personal data on our servers, these rights are inherently satisfied.

9.5 Other Jurisdictions

If you reside in a jurisdiction with additional privacy rights (including but not limited to Canada, Australia, South Africa, South Korea, Japan, India, or any other country with applicable data protection laws), we are committed to respecting your rights. Our local-only data architecture ensures that your personal data remains under your control at all times.

10. International Data Transfers

The App does not transfer your personal data internationally. All personal data remains on your device. Bible translation text retrieved from the CDN does not constitute personal data.

11. In-App Purchases and Subscriptions

The App offers optional premium subscriptions processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). All payment and subscription management is handled by the respective platform. We do not receive your payment details. To manage or cancel your subscription, use your device’s subscription management settings:

  • iOS: Settings > Apple ID > Subscriptions
  • Android: Google Play Store > Subscriptions

12. Scripture and Bible Content

The App includes the World English Bible (WEB), a public domain translation, bundled for offline use. Additional translations are sourced from publicly available texts via a content delivery network. Copyright for each translation belongs to its respective publisher. No personal data is transmitted when retrieving Scripture text.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.

If we make material changes that significantly affect how we handle personal data, we will provide notice through the App or other appropriate means.

15. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws applicable in your jurisdiction of residence, without regard to conflict of law principles, to the extent required by local law.
